the elusive and unsung heroes

Who are the comms and rf engineers?

Communications Engineer

Communications Engineer

Communications Engineer

A dedicated comms engineer programs and deploys the wired and wireless systems on which the production teams communicate during rehearsals and show. They work to provide a reliable and quality comms experience so you can contact who you need ,from wherever you need, so you never miss a cue. Additionally, they can be tasked with requests for IFB's, interfacing with 3rd party systems, venue network integration, and remote callers.

Proficient with Helixnet, Freespeak II, Arcadia, Riedel Bolero, Telex analog systems, and RADcom systems

RF Engineer

Communications Engineer

Communications Engineer

This position requires the engineer to coordinate radio frequencies for wireless transmitters such as mics and IEM's to mitigate interference and provide clean audio for every room of an event. Techs can also assist you in selecting the right wireless systems for the event/venue.  Example scenarios that most require this a separate role are events with a General Session and Breakouts, cities with busy RF airways such as NYC, LA, and DC, shows with 20+ transmitters. shows with analog RF systems only.

Proficient with Shure , Wisycom, Sennheiser, PWS and Lectrosonics Systems

Communication System Deployments

While System Engineering is our primary passion, Comms comes in at a close second. Our more intricate deployments have included the following :

Arcadia

Hardware Utilized: 16 HXII packs, 20 Freespeak II packs, 2 speaker stations, 10 E1 transceivers, 5 network switches, LQ 4W4

Programming Features: 11 internal channels, managed around 40 roles, IFB and Cue inputs over Dante, IV Direct routing to LQ 4-wire ports for interfacing camera com, indoor and outdoor wireless coverage spanning 200,000 ft²

Helixnet

Hardware Utilized: 13 HXII packs, 3 speaker stations, 1 HRM-4X, 4 network switches, LQ 4W8, LQ2W2

Programming Features:  9 internal channels, network linking of LQ's to Helixnet, interfacing Freespeak II station over 4-wire ports, 25 roles managed, setup of Agent-IC for remote user integration

Freespeak (wireless only show)

Hardware Utilized: 20 Freespeak II beltpacks, 6 E1 transceivers

Programming Features: 7 internal channels, use of 4-wire ports for IFB, use of 2-wire ports for camera com interfacing

    RF experience Overview

    RF Deployments

Our experience coordinating RF is in small to medium deployments. Transmitter counts have ranged anywhere from 16 to 80 channels with a healthy mix of UHFR, ULXD, Axient and PSM's. Our larger coordinations have been done in Orlando, with other cities including NYC, Chicago and Las Vegas. We primarily using SoundBase and Shure Wireless Workbench for our coordination program and spectrum analyzers like the RF Explorer, TTi, and TinySA.
